1 April – Medieval Illumination

My mission whilst at Mottisfont is to fulfill a childhood ambition of being a Medieval illuminator. I’m an artist and illustrator and I draw for a living. Most of my drawings are of the natural world. I trained as a botanical illustrator and plants are frequent subjects. I’ve also branched out into insects, birds, maps, geology and artefacts … and projects about historic gardens.

Before training as an illustrator I studied art history and I love the medieval period, particularly medieval manuscripts such as books of hours. Whenever I look at medieval manuscripts I am awe struck by the beauty of the illustrations and exquisite design.
