1 April – an afternoon in the Cellarium

My plan whilst at Mottisfont is to make a graphic work, possibly a small printed book, which illuminates Medieval Mottisfont. I want to create something that makes this early period visible and tangible for visitors today. A sort of field guide to the monastic period if you like.

To do this I am trying to see Mottisfont through Medieval eyes– looking at everything that remains on site from that period – in the buildings and the landscape – and developing a picture in my imagination of what it would have been like to be here 800 years ago. To start this process on day one I sat in the Cellarium and began a drawing of the vaulted arches and listened to the ethereal sound installation by Hywel Davies.
