9 April – Medieval Draftsman’s Workshop Taking Shape

At the end of each day I return to the studio for a couple of hours drawing. I’m making letterforms using the illuminated letters from the Winchester Bible as a style guide.   The alphabet that is emerging will help me structure my image library for the project and form the basis of creative workshops with primary school children after Easter.  I like this quiet thinking time when drawing is an activity that turns the brain onto a different frequency and ideas come out of the paper rather than the cerebral cortex.  And the firewood has arrived so I can keep warm and be kept company by the light and movement of flames – just as my Medieval predecessors would have been.Letterforms in studiostudio fire
